This program, developed by Mediarts, is designed to assist in the medical diagnosis of female urinary incontinence. The program is based on the assumption that urinary incontinence is the principal complaint, and that there are no other dominant complaints or symptoms. The reliability of the program obviously depends on the information supplied by the physician and/or patient. Entering incorrect or misleading information will cause erroneous or unreliable results.
THIS PROGRAM DOES NOT MAKE A "DIAGNOSIS," something only a physician can do. It merely offers an estimated likelihood of diseases or conditions based on its internal logic and your answers to the questions. In addition, the program provides suggestions for additional diagnostic steps to support or to reject the diagnosis. This software is subjected to clinical testing. Use of this program implies consent to process all data anonymously for evaluation and scientific purposes. At this time, Mediarts has published the following results:
1. European Urology Suppl 4.: No 3, 2005, p 91. Author: MJFM de Bruin and others. Title: The value of the online diagnosis programme 'Mediarts 1.7' for female urinary incontinence.
2. Dutch Magazine for Urology: No 6, in October 2006, p 176. Author: MJFM de Bruin and others. Title: Multicenter validation of the internet diagnosis programme MediArts for urinary incontinence in women.
3. European Urology Suppl 6.: No 2, 2007, p 203. Author: MJFM de Bruin and others. Title: The 'Mediarts test' for female urinary incontinence reduces the need for invasive urodynamics.
It is the opinion of legal counsel that using stand-alone medical expert system software (programs not controlling medical devices) cannot be construed as the practice of medicine. Still, we must stress this disclaimer: MEDIARTS MAY NOT BE HELD LIABLE FOR ANY MISDIAGNOSIS, DAMAGES, INJURY, OR DEATH OCCURRING TO ANY PATIENT WHOSE FINDINGS ARE ENTERED HEREIN.
The program emphasizes a clinical approach, but it remains, nonetheless, A TEST PROCEDURE. Thus, the physician and/or patient should regard the output of this program the same as he does any test. As always in the practice of medicine
CLINICAL JUDGMENT TAKES PRECEDENCE
THEREFORE THIS PROGRAM, LIKE ALL MEDICAL "EXPERT SYSTEM" SOFTWARE SHOULD NEVER BE A SUBSTITUTE FOR SEEING A HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONAL.
